Apple is selling WorldPay Zinc mobile pay-as-you-go Chip & PIN keypads at 37 retail stores across the UK.

According to WorldPay, the mobile point-of-sale (MPoS) market is set to grow over the next 12 months, as uptake increases amongst the UK’s 4m micro businesses and sole traders.

To coincide with the Apple listing, WorldPay Zinc is launching an optimised app for iPad. While the WorldPay Zinc service has been available to iPad users since the keypads launched in June 2013, through the existing app for iPhone and iPod touch, the optimised app provides an improved experience for users on the larger display of iPad, WorldPay claims.

WorldPay Zinc brings card payments to areas of the economy that have until now continued to be dominated by cash. With consumers increasingly withdrawing less cash and preferring the convenience and security of paying by card, WorldPay Zinc enables sole traders and mobile businesses, from personal trainers and artists, to photographers and landscape gardeners, to take secure card payments on the go.

In doing so, they can help boost sales, improve cash flow, reduce time spent chasing payments and portray a more professional image, WorldPay says. There are no long-term contract commitments or monthly subscription fees, meaning businesses can use the service as much or as little as they like, they simply pay 2.75% per card payment. The service also offers quick settlement (with money transferred into the business’ bank account usually within four business days) and customers have the support of a 24/7 UK based helpline.

The service is said to be quick and easy to set-up. Businesses and sole traders can apply for a WorldPay Zinc account online at worldpayzinc.com or download the WorldPay Zinc App on their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and apply through the app. All they need then is the  pocket-sized black Chip & PIN keypad. It takes less than five minutes to sign up for a new account and users can be up and running, receiving secure payments and reviewing full transaction details on the move usually the very next business day.

Geraldine Wilson, managing drector of WorldPay Zinc, said: “Since we launched WorldPay Zinc in June, we’ve been overwhelmed by the breadth of different people and types of businesses using the service. We’ve seen WorldPay Zinc being used at music festivals, at foodie and art fairs, at home jewellery sales, and by mobile locksmiths, plumbers, creative designers, nail technicians, dog walkers and many other people who would previously have been restricted to taking cash and cheque payments. The feedback has been really positive – people really like the compact, ‘pocketable’ keypad design and the freedom it gives them to take cards.”

“This represents a really exciting moment in the growth of mobile card payment acceptance. We’re thrilled to make WorldPay Zinc available to the millions of sole traders and small business owners in the UK who use and trust iPad and iPhone to support them in running their businesses.”

The key features of the service include:

– Pay as you go costs just 2.75% per card payment – the convenience of card payments without the on-going costs
– Sign-up in five minutes and start taking payments usually the next business day
– Secure and trusted Chip & PIN technology with which customers are comfortable
– Payments in your bank account usually within four working days
– The service is fully supported by WorldPay’s UK-based 24/7 customer service helpdesk
– Ability to accept payments over the phone via an online portal

The WorldPay Zinc mobile pay as you go Chip & PIN keypad is available for £59.99 at Apple retail stores in the UK.

The WorldPay Zinc App is available free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch or at www.AppStore.com/WorldPayZinc.
