Clippy's Apples: Asda listin

Asda is listing the award-winning brand of British-apple based conserves, jellies and relishes, Clippy’s Apples, in 88-plus stores in the north west.

The supermarket will stock all six of the company’s savoury lines, including Apple, Tomato & Roasted Garlic Relish and Apple, Redcurrant and Chilli jelly.

The Asda listing follows news Booths is selling its savoury and sweet lines, including Apple & Plum, Apple, Mango & Chilli Chutney and Apple & Figgy Diggy Jam, from this month.

Set up in 2008, Clippy’s Apples achieved a national listing with Ocado in autumn 2010 and is stocked by Harvey Nichols, Fortnum & Mason and John Lewis. Business is reported to have gone from strength to strength with sales up by over 200% in 2011.

Co-founder Michelle McKenna said: “The big manufacturers have not invested in innovation during the last five years, which has caused the jams and conserves category to stagnate. Our products are much higher in fruit content than any of our competitors, which as well as being more healthy, allows for lots of usage and recipe ideas. They are not just for toast.”

Clippy’s Apples is supporting Jam Week (20-26 June 2011), now in its second year, which was set up to encourage Britain to appreciate ‘proper jam’ packed with fruit.

McKenna is also traveling the UK with a tour ‘Preserving the Nation’, designed to bring preserving back into vogue.
