Instant barbecue pioneer Bar-Be-Quick has teamed up with leading soy sauce brand, Kikkoman to run a summer on-pack promotion featuring the brand’s teriyaki marinades and sauces.

A special edition of Bar-Be-Quick’s standard sized Instant Barbecue (RRP £7) – which is twice the size of a standard disposable – will be available exclusively at Sainsbury’s and Morrisons, and will carry a 50p coupon off Kikkoman’s Teriyaki Marinade, Teriyaki Sauce with Toasted Sesame, and Teriyaki Sauce with Roasted Garlic.

The Teriyaki category is going from strength to strength due to a growing consumer appetite for Japanese cuisine. It increased by 15.8% value and 14% volume during 2018, driven by Kikkoman which is the No.1 product in the teriyaki market with a share of 44%.

Caroline Morris, head of sales at Bar-Be-Quick, said: “We’re excited to be working with renowned Japanese sauce and marinade brand, Kikkoman, to encourage barbecue fans to spice up their summer, following our successful partnership with Hellman’s last year.”

Bing-yu Lee, General Manager, Kikkoman UK, added: “We are delighted to be partnering with Bar-Be-Quick on this promotion.  It gives us an opportunity to demonstrate how convenient our Kikkoman Teriyaki range is for barbecue meal occasions. It’s perfect for a spontaneous barbecue as you don’t have to marinate overnight – just 30 minutes is all that’s needed.

“The promotion will give us greater in-store presence in both Sainsbury’s and Morrisons over the key spring and summer periods and will help drive up-take of our latest SKUs. We are confident it will result in a significant increase in sales across both brands.”

Bar-Be-Quick, which is owned by parent company Rectella International, invented the instant barbecue in 1986 to offer consumers the utmost in convenience, while also supporting retailers that want to cater for the entire al fresco dining needs of shoppers.
