Entertainment drives footfall at Fleetwood

Footfall at local shopping centre, Freeport Fleetwood, shot up by 40% following the first official Best of British Day, launched on 13 September to celebrate all things British.

The outlet centre also supported Costa Coffee’s fundraiser on 31 August with disco music, clowning and some of children’s TV’s best-loved characters helping to generate more than £300 for the families of coffee producers, delivered via the charitable Costa Foundation.

The 40% increase in footfall across all 45 stores was recorded on 14 September, leading to a sales increase by 17% on the same day, following the British-inspired family day which saw the crowds flocking to enjoy patriotic entertainment, food and drinks.

John Magee, centre manager at Freeport Fleetwood, said: “Our first official Best of British Day brought in new shoppers from as far as Glasgow. The success of the day impacted on the following week’s trading and saw footfall and sales steadily increase throughout the week. The event seemed to remind shoppers of the fabulous range of stores we have here at the centre, especially with all our wonderful autumnal offers, with as much as 60% off last the latest looks.”

Lancashire-based X-Factor 2011 finalist Jonjo Kerr, kicked off Best of British celebrations and the crowds enjoyed Made in Liverpool, the official Cavern Club band plus performances by the Scream Theatre School. Hosted by Jordan North and ex Big Brother 9 contestant Luke Marsden, from 97.4 Rock FM, who presented live from the Centre throughout the day.

The Centre was decorated with Union Jack ribbons, bunting, balloons, the iconic BBC test card and giant Fleetwood seagulls and store windows were dressed following the Britannia-theme. Plus celebrations came alive with a host of British icons including a Prince Harry look-a-like, a London Hackney Carriage photo booth, beefeaters guarding the entrance, a Pimm’s cart and of course strawberries and cream.

Freeport Fleetwood offers a wide choice of fashion, homewares, fragrances, accessories and gift ideas from designer and high street stores including Moss, M&S Outlet, Jeff Banks and GAP Outlet. There is a wealth of locations in which to refuel too – whether it’s a light bite at Costa Coffee or a laid-back lunch in the Bay Tea Rooms. Late night shopping is also available every Thursday until 8pm.
