AF Blakemore has joined forces with Walsall Business Parks at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce to help businesses in the borough recycle their waste.
The company has set up a service especially to aid businesses located on the business parks with their cardboard and plastic recycling, completely free of charge.
The service, which was initially launched in December 2012, entails Blakemore Logistics making weekly collections of waste cardboard and plastic from local companies. All waste is then recycled at AF Blakemore’s purpose-built recycling centre at its main site in Willenhall.
Blakemore Logistics recycling manager Steve Morgan, who worked in partnership with Business Park Co-ordinator Sue Cyster at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce to set up the service, said: “AF Blakemore’s aim is to provide local businesses with a recycling service that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to access free of charge.
“Not only does the service help companies to reduce their impact on the environment but it can also help them to reduce their waste collection costs.
“Blakemore’s is committed to making a positive contribution to the communities it serves, and this is one way in which the company can make a difference.”
When AF Blakemore’s recycling service opened up to external businesses almost 18 months ago six businesses initially signed up, but now 23 businesses are benefiting from the service every week.
Dave Moran, the owner and manager of Strike Electrical Distributors, a Walsall business which has been making use of the recycling service, said: “AF Blakemore’s free cardboard, plastic and paper collection service has made it really easy for my business to recycle its waste and drive down its environmental impact.
“I run a small operation so the cost saving resulting from reduced waste collections has had a significant positive impact on my business.
“My actual waste is considerably less than it used to be, and I feel confident that other small businesses in Walsall could benefit from this service too.”
