Carrefour is investing €40m in new Wanzl Tango plastic trolleys for its new Planet format hypermarkets in Europe.
The Tango trolley will be supplied to over 500 stores in France, Belgium, Spain, Greece and Italy over the next three years.
Wanzl sales director, Roland Striebel, said it was a significant contract win for Wanzl and a milestone development of the Tango trolley in Europe.
“We are delighted to be awarded this valuable business by one of the biggest names in international retail, consolidating the Tango as an increasingly popular choice of trolley throughout Europe,” said Striebel.
According to Wanzl, the stylisy, colour-branded Tango trolleys complement the modern Planet format; which features wider aisles, clearly delineated product zones and more floor space for frozen and organic foods, beauty and fashion.
The first Tango trolleys were introduced in 2002 and have steadily grown to become a favourite of European retailers particularly in the supermarket category, said Wanzl.
The styling, colour and recycling benefits of plastics, plus their compatibility with emerging RFID technologies position the Tango trolley at the forefront of eco-friendly, modern trolley design, it claims.
Along with the main fleet 220-litre trolley, Tango is also available in 90-litre and 160-litre capacities, covering all store formats from convenience stores to hypermarkets.
Along with the supply of trolleys, Wanzl Shopfitting is providing a bespoke shelving solution for the Planet Organics departments.
The system features easy handling during assembly and conversion with an elegant, classic design. Wanzl Shopfitting will produce and supply the system for all Organic retail areas of up to 400sq m within 500 Carrefour Planet stores.
