CJ Foods brand, Bibigo, launches Kimchi and Tofu Dumplings

Kimchi Tofu and Vegetable

Bibigo, the brand owned by South Korean food company CJ Foods, has launched Kimchi and Tofu dumplings.

Bibigo has already launched a number of products, including steamed vegetable dumplings, BBQ sauces and frozen crispy dumplings, which are all available in Tesco stores and independent retailers nationwide. 

The Kimchi and Tofu dumplings are a frozen product and come in a 250g bag with a recommended RSP of £2.79.

The dumplings are said to be very easy to serve they can be pan-fried or steamed and take only five minutes to cook.

Kimchi is a traditional fermented Korean side dish made of cabbage or vegetables with a variety of seasonings which gives the dish a distinctive “spicy” and “sour” flavour. The kimchi is traditionally made like a pickle and often allowed to ferment underground in jars for months at a time. It is Korea’s national dish and can also be made with cabbage, radish, green onions, or cucumber.

Ruby Huang, marketing manager at Bibigo, said: “The Kimchi and Tofu dumplings are very popular in South Korea and we believe they will be well received in the UK as well. 2014 has been a great year for Bibigo as we have launched a number of products which have all been successful. The new Kimchi and Tofu dumplings are definitely the most traditional in ingredients and flavours but we feel that they will be just as popular with a variety of customers. The dumplings are healthy, convenient, easy to store and they have subtle sweet, sour and spicy kick which should be popular with a number of UK consumers from families, foodies and experimental cooks.”

The dumplings are aimed at a variety of consumers from the health conscious, students to those looking to try a different cuisine or snack. As the dumplings are a frozen product they make a great freezer staple and ideal as a last minute snack, starter and they can also be served as part of a canapé selection, Bibigo said. Mintel also suggests that prepared meals which include ready to cook products continue to show high levels of popularity with the market forecast to grow by 28.4% to a total of £4.9bn in 2017. 

Dumplings are fundamental to the Korean culture as they are a traditional dish served either as a starter, side dish or even for breakfast. Dumplings are also eaten on special occasions as a celebratory dish and also served on a number of festive occasions too. 

Bibigo said it always ensures its products are healthy as well as being tasty for example their sauces have no MSG or trans fat and their dumplings are low in sodium. Bibigo also uses high quality ingredients sourced from Korea therefore authenticity is guaranteed.

The Kimchi and Tofu dumplings will be launched in mid-March 2014 and will be available in 16 Tesco stores initially with an outlook to increase these listings with the retailer and independent retailers over the year.
