The Co-operative Food is extending its Free From own-brand offering with a host of new products.

From tasty everyday staples to indulgent treats, the convenience retailer said it is adding 15 new lines to its Free From range, to offer even more variety for those looking for flavoursome and high-quality foods that are free from wheat, gluten or dairy. The new products will go into stores from 28 July 2014.

The Co-operative’s latest free from offering has been developed with the help of a special taste team panel made up of Co-operative employees who have coeliac disease.

More than one in every 100 people in the UK has coeliac disease, an autoimmune disease caused by an intolerance to gluten, which is found in wheat, rye and barley. Plus, many more are avoiding wheat, gluten or dairy due to allergies or sensitivities or simply as a lifestyle choice.

The Co-operative has developed a range of free from fresh breads, easy-to-cook pastas and breakfast products to provide simple and delicious everyday meal solutions, including the new single-serve Free From Golden Syrup Porridge Pots (50g). The gluten-free porridge comes in handy individual pots, making them perfect for those looking for a quick and easy filling breakfast, the retailer claims.

Alternatively, there are some free from Co-operative breakfast toppers. The new Free From Granola (450g), made with golden oats enveloped in honey with a choice of tropical or berry fruits, is ideal with natural yogurt or with its dairy free substitute.

And, for a satisfying bite between mealtimes, there are two new gluten, wheat and dairy free granola bars. The Free From Fruit and Nut Granola Bars (5s) are spiced with cinnamon and packed with gluten-free oats, apricots, pumpkin seeds, raisins, sultanas, pecans, sunflower seeds and linseed. Plus, for something a bit fruity, the Free From Berry Granola Bars (5s) have crispy puffed rice, cranberries, raisins, sultanas and freeze-dried raspberries.

There’s a range of free from sweet bites, too. Available in special calorie-controlled portions, the range of biscuits and cakes are said to be ideal for health-conscious shoppers. The new Free From Mini Bakewell Tarts (6s), which are unique to the retailer, have a light sweet pastry base filled with mixed fruit jam, almond sponge and topped with a sweet fondant icing and glacé cherry.
