The Co-operative Food is introducing a limited-edition ice cream into its premium Truly Irresistible range.
Launching in stores on 2 October 2013, the new Truly Irresistible Pina Colada Ice Cream is strictly for grown ups, according to the retailer.
The new flavour has been developed to be on-trend with the recent revival of retro cocktails and the introduction of many tropical-themed Tiki bars to British towns and cities. The Pina Colada ice cream is made with West Country milk, West Country cream and free range eggs. It also contains coconut, a lively sprinkling of rum, and has pineapple ripple running throughout.
Michelle Nye, product developer for Ice Cream at The Co-operative Food, said: “The Pina Colada, meaning ‘strained pineapple’ is a famous Puerto Rican rum-based cocktail, which was reputedly invented in the 1950s or 1960s, depending on which account you believe. Interestingly, three different Puerto-Rican barmen claim to have invented the cocktail, which is now the country’s national drink.
“Cocktail classics such as the coconut and pineapple-flavoured Pina Colada have made a real comeback in recent months, and we feel that this delicious ice cream perfectly captures these amazing Caribbean flavours. It’s an exciting end to a mid-week meal or ideal for enjoying as a treat on its own.
“The packaging is bright, colourful and tropical, too – helping shoppers to reminisce about their summer beach holidays or getting them in the mood for their next holiday in the sun.”
The ice cream is available from selected Co-operative Food stores nationwide from 2 October 2013.
