The Co-operative has introduced a new lighter cheese to its own-brand range.

According to the retailer, The Co-operative Lighter Mature Cheese has the same creamy taste and texture as standard Cheddar but contains 30% less fat.

It is produced by Milk Link in the same factories as The Co-operative’s Truly Irresistible Taw Valley and Truly Irresistible Lockerbie cheddars.

Alison Evans, category development manager for dairy, said: “The Co-operative is committed to reducing saturated fat in all its own-brand products, so we’re delighted with this lighter cheese. It really does taste great, even though it’s much lower in fat that standard products. It’s great to have after dinner or for using on sandwiches, and is even perfect for cheese on toast as it melts beautifully – ideal for those watching their waistlines.”

The new lighter cheese is available now in selected Co-operative Food and Somerfield stores
