Co-operative Truly Irresistible wine range

The Co-operative Food is launching a raft of deals on wines and Champagne, including half price offers, over the festive season. 

To celebrate Christmas and New Year, there are savings to be made on Champagnes, including Aubert et Fils Champagne NV, which is half price at £13.99 a bottle. The Co-operative’s own-brand Les Pionniers Vintage Champagne 2004, which won Gold medals at this year’s IWC and Decanter World Wine Awards, is also on offer at £23.99 (£3.00 off).

Additionally, the New Zealand Wither Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2012/13 is half-price at £5.49. And, there are savings to be made on The Co-operative’s new premium wine range, too, including Truly Irresistible Godello 2012, which is down to £6.49 (saving £2.00) and will make the perfect partner to the Christmas turkey, the retailer claims.

Made in the Colchagua Valley by winemaker Santiago Margozzini, this deep ruby red Reserva has been aged for five months in American and French oak. With subtle touches of herbs and black pepper and a surrounding core of ripe black fruit, the aromas are framed by charming notes of vanilla, chocolate and coconuts from the oak ageing. The wine has a complex palate, ripe blackcurrants and blackberries with touches of vanilla, cedar and chocolate from the oak ageing and a lingering and pleasant finish. The grapes for this wine were selected from Vergelegen’s Rooiland Vineyards, grown on granite, hutton and clovelly soils and then fermented in open tanks at high temperatures with regular punch-downs to ensure maximum colour and tannin extraction. Winemaker Cristalina Alvarez is ensuring that cool-climate Spain’s whites are getting noticed. The grapes were harvested by hand and vinified in stainless steel tanks at 15°c. After fermentation was completed the wine was left in the tank for a period of one month in order to undergo maturation. This 100% Godello is crisp and fresh with light peach notes and a floral finish. Enjoy with any seafood you can get your hands on or alternatively it goes just as well with white meats, including turkey, and fresh vegetables.

The Montepulciano grapes for this delicious red wine were harvested by hand in October 2011 from 600 hectares of vineyards in Città Sant’Angelo, Pescara, which has light, sandy loam soils and a warm maritime climate. Some 40% of the blend was matured in a combination of French and American oak barrels for 12 months. This deep, ruby and violet wine from the Abruzzo region of Italy is packed with young red berry aromas. Rustic and full flavoured, it is perfectly at home served with tomato-based pasta dishes or cold meats, or can be enjoyed on its own.

The location of the St Gabriel vineyard offers ideal growing conditions for Viognier, with warm days and cool nights achieving a perfect balance between maturity, ripeness and acidity in the grapes. The average vine age is 12-18 years and they are planted on sandy, clay and limestone. Grapes were harvest at night to prevent oxidation from occurring. Fermentation occurred in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This delicious, smooth and creamy wine is pale gold in colour with a rich and elegant nose, and notes of stone fruits such as peach and apricot with a hint of toast on the palate. Serve chilled (10°c- 12°c) with fresh fish, seafood, white meat, pasta dishes, tarts and fruit.

The grapes for this wine come from vineyards grown on clay soils, settled on boulders in El Molino, Ugarteche, Mendoza. The 100% Tempranillo grapes were harvested by hand and only the very best selected berries underwent fermentation. Aged for 15 months in new French and American oak barrels before being bottled, this dark red wine has ripe red fruits aromas on the nose. The palate is packed with notes of vanilla, tobacco and red peppers. It’s a full-bodied Tempranillo that pairs perfectly with Spanish cuisine and lamb.

This exclusive wine has a blend that consists of selected grapes from 80% Stellenbosch Shiraz vineyards, 15% Paarl and West Coast region Grenache and 5% Viognier from the coastal region. Both the Grenache and the Viognier were fermented in stainless steel tanks and regularly pumped over to ensure that only the purest fruit was obtained. The wine matures for 12 months in third and fourth fill-French oak barrels before racking. It has dense plummy and spicy fruitcake aromas with a leathery soft finish.
