Co-operative scoops two golds in own label food and drink awards

The Co-operative has won two gold awards for products in its premium Truly Irresistible range at the Grocer Own Label Food and Drink Awards 2011.

The Co-operative’s Truly Irresistible Fairtrade Milk Chocolate with Butterscotch won gold in the Grocery Confectionery category.

The chocolate is part of The Co-operative’s Truly Irresistible range of Fairtrade chocolate, which is supplied by Divine Chocolate and part owned by the growers who produce the Fairtrade cocoa in Ghana.

Judges said the chocolate was, “lovely quality chocolate; butterscotch adds a nice texture to the chocolate; a good smooth product”.

The Co-operative also won a Gold award for its Truly Irresistible Smoked Haddock Melting Middle Fishcakes, which gained top marks in the Coated Fish category. Judges said: “Visually this product promises much, and it delivers. Great quality in a generous portion.”

Kate Jones, head of food product, policy and technology, for The Co-operative, said: “This is great news for The Co-operative’s Food team, who have worked really hard to ensure that the Truly Irresistible range is delicious. This award recognises all of this hard work.”

The Co-operative also gained a silver award for its Truly Irresistible Murgh Murkhani Curry Sauce.
