The Co-operative Group claims to be helping parents pack healthy children’s lunchboxes with the launch of deals on fruit and vegetables.

Apples and mandarins are on promotion at Co-operative food stores from 7 September to 27 September 2011 inclusive.

Shoppers can also pick up packs of The Co-operative British Truly Irresistible Sweet Vine Tomatoes for £2.00 and receive a free cucumber.

By taking advantage of the promotions, parents can fill their children’s lunchboxes with portions of fruit and vegetables, while keeping firm hold of the family purse strings, said the retailer.

Janet Taylor, nutrition manager for The Co-operative, said: “Lunch is a great opportunity to ensure your child is eating several portions of fruit and vegetables a day. As part of The Co-operative’s ground-breaking Ethical Plan, we have pledged to ensure a minimum of 30% of our food promotions are for healthy offerings, making it easier for parents to make the right food choices for their children’s lunches when family budgets are stretched.”
