Darnley’s Gin is celebrating this week with the announcement that one of its three award-winning expressions, Darnley’s Spiced Gin, is to be listed in M&S stores across Scotland.

From the beginning of October, gin fans will be able to buy this distinctively spicy, small batch gin from M&S Foodhalls located across Scotland, as the retailer moves to meet booming demand for locally sourced Scottish gin brands.

Inspired by the adventurous spirit of Fife-based founders, the Wemyss family, Darnley’s Spiced Gin uses a distinctive blend of ten botanicals from around the world, including cloves, ginger and grains of paradise. A contemporary London Dry style gin, it is full and rounded with warm spice notes from cinnamon and nutmeg, followed by a lingering peppery finish.

To support the new listing, Darnley’s will be encouraging drinkers across the nation to swap their traditional ‘G&T’ for a ‘G&G’ this Christmas – a Darnley’s Spiced Gin and Ginger Ale, served with a festive flourish of clove-studded orange.

The Darnley’s team will also be cropping up at food and drink events with their ‘G&G’ serve and a celebration of spiced flavours, including the Cake & Bake Show, Foodies Edinburgh and the St Andrews Gin Fayre.

Darnley’s Gin was launched in 2010 by one of Scotland’s longest established and experienced wine and spirits makers, the Wemyss Family (pronounced ‘weems’). Darnley’s Spiced Gin was added to the portfolio in 2012, and the company opened a new gin distillery and visitor centre at Kingsbarns in the East Neuk of Fife in summer 2017.

Founder William Wemyss is thrilled with the new listing, which comes just as the important Christmas season approaches. He commented: ‘Demand for locally sourced Scottish gins is ever increasing, and we are delighted to have a place on the shelves of M&S to offer shoppers our very distinctive, spiced gin. We have found that even Gin & Tonic traditionalists love the taste of a Darnley’s Spiced Gin & Ginger Ale when they get the chance to try it. For the new generation of gin drinkers, the spiced notes and warming flavours of our gin are delicious, either to sip and enjoy or when mixed into a wide range of drinks, especially so as the festive season approaches.’

Michael Wallis, Spirit Buyer at M&S, said: “We are seeing huge demand for new regional gins from our customers, and Darnley’s is a fitting addition to our range. We expect Darnley’s Spiced Gin will quickly become a firm favourite and a great alternative, particularly in the lead up to the Christmas season.”

Darnley’s Spiced Gin is available at M&S stores in Scotland, bottled at 42.7% with an RRP £34
