Westfield London today reveals latest plans to enhance the south-west corner of the centre, including a multi-million pound upgrade to Debenhams as it continues to invest in enhancing its retail offering in the centre.
These developments come ahead of the £600m expansion to the centre that will deliver over 700,000sq ft of new retail and leisure space, expanding Westfield London to almost 2.8m sq ft and becoming Europe’s largest shopping centre.
The newly designed Debenhams is nearing completion and several exciting new retail stores are due to open later this year. Scandinavian brand Lindex will open its second UK store at Westfield London, following positive results at Westfield Stratford City. HMV will also relocate to this area with a 7,400sq ft. store and women’s fashion retailer Apricot recently opened a 2,850sq ft. store.
As part of the plans, the Southern Terrace entrance is being remodelled enabling the introduction of additional food offers which will further enhance the food and beverage offer in this part of the mall. Itsu and Zizzi are due to open food outlets late in October 2015 following the recent opening of Five Guys which is one of the most successful outlets in their portfolio.
Keith Mabbett, director of leasing, from Westfield, said: “The redevelopment of the south-west corner of Westfield London including a major upgrade of Debenhams highlights our continued commitment to investing in the UK’s number one shopping centre, ensuring we offer the best experience to our customers. Westfield London attracts over 28 million customers annually and these investments will ensure we showcase the best of retail design and mix.”
Mark Jordan, director of space planning from Debenhams, said: “Debenhams is pleased to be able to invest in the redevelopment of our Westfield London store, which will bring multiple food offers, as well as expansions in our Beauty Hall and Designers at Debenhams offerings. At Debenhams we are constantly examining and evolving the ways our customers are shopping with us, and have been working with Westfield on a number of exciting multi-channel initiatives which will be showcased in the refurbished store. We are looking forward to welcoming our customers into the redesigned store later in 2015.”
The announcement quickly follows the news that Westfield is also investing in the expansion of its luxury shopping area, The Village at Westfield London. The redevelopment recently saw British brand Burberry expand to a two-storey flagship store and announced the arrival of other new luxury fashion stores open including Jigsaw and Sandro.
The construction of the new entrance and the Debenhams corner is due to finish in October 2015.
