The UK’s favourite parcel delivery company has opened two brand new, purpose-built facilities as part of its ongoing investment programme to expand network capacity and improve efficiency.

DPD has relocated its Nottingham depot to a new 60,000sq ft state-of-the-art distribution centre at Blenheim Park Road in Nottingham, while the parcel carrier has also opened a new purpose-built 45,200sq ft depot in Barking – a new location for the company.

When fully operational, the two new facilities will collectively create 384 new jobs in a range of roles – including drivers, operations, warehousing and back office.

The latest investment follows a period of sustained growth, with DPD experiencing double digit annual parcel volume increases for a number of years. The new facilities expand the DPD network as demand for the company’s market leading services continues to grow.

The firm recently reported a 40% year on year increase in weekend parcel volumes, while the unique Your DPD app, which enables consumers to personalise their DPD experience, now has close to 3 million users in the UK.

To increase capacity, DPD’s existing Nottingham depot has relocated from Dabell Avenue, Blenheim Industrial Estate to a new, purpose-built 60,000 sq ft distribution centre. The new facility will cover a more optimum delivery area, accommodating 133 new delivery routes and ensure the operation can handle the parcel volume growth predicted in the area through to 2025.

In addition to staff moving across from the old site, 209 new jobs will be created when the new distribution centre is fully operational.

DPD will create up to 175 jobs at its new, purpose-built 45,207sq ft depot in Barking, which is a new location for the company.  The new depot is ideally located with excellent access to road networks, enabling DPD to increase its delivery capacity within the M25 and across East London.  The new depot will service 149 new delivery routes.

Dwain McDonald, CEO of DPD, commented: “I’m delighted to announce the opening of these two new facilities, they enable us to increase our capacity and help ensure we continue to maintain the high level of services our customers have come to expect from us.

“Investment in new locations, larger, purpose-built depots and our new, larger DCs make a huge difference to our operational efficiency. Nottingham gives us room to carry on growing, while gaining a new location within the M25 gives our drivers better access to major road networks, helping to improve mileage, journey times and CO2 emissions.

“Our business has grown rapidly in the last few years due to the popularity of our innovative services which put consumers in control of their own delivery. The new facilities at Nottingham and Barking are the latest in our ongoing investment in our infrastructure and will help us continue to deliver a first-class service to businesses, online retailers and their customers for years to come.”
