GeoPost UK, the parent company of DPD and InterLink, has announced a major recruitment drive ahead of the Christmas peak.
The parcel company is planning to recruit an additional 900 staff to handle anticipated record numbers of B2C parcels, resulting from the boom in internet shopping and DPD’s one-hour timeslot delivery service; Predict.
Already this year the firm said it has created 512 new jobs but, in the run-up to this year’s peak, will be recruiting an additional 900 temporary workers across the DPD and InterLink network.
This will mean an additional annualised spend on wages of £25m, according to the company.
The temporary vacancies will largely be for drivers and sorters.
GeoPost UK’s chief executive officer Dwain McDonald, said: “In the run up to Christmas last year we sorted 15% more parcels than in the same period the previous year, and in 2012 we expect another significant increase.
“This is largely due to the success of our unique Predict service, which gives home shoppers a one-hour delivery window so they do not have to wait all day for a parcel.
“Our aim is to give our customers the same high standards of service all year round including the Christmas peak and this is why we have made this massive extra investment in staff.”
