FreshStop, the fastest growing 24-hour convenience store retail brand in South Africa, is shaking things up for Eastern Cape community residents with the opening of its 230th national store on Thursday, 18 August 2016 at Durban Road, Northcrest in Mthatha. Previously a Star Mart store, FreshStop at Caltex Northcrest has been rebuilt completely and its fuel forecourt has been refurbished extensively to feature the latest 20/20 Caltex imagery. “This site has undergone a complete knock down and rebuild to give it the look and feel of the FreshStop brand, while making it more comfortable for our customers to refill and fresh up,” says Jo Berlyn, the store retailer.

The store offers Mthatha residents and commuters an incredible variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, an assortment of grocery items, as well as a wide selection of Grab n Go snacks, cool drinks and baked goods. A full-service Seattle coffee bar with trained barista, the first of its kind in the area, is also available in-store to service the caffeine needs of customers. FreshStop’s Pitstop Cafe offers an array of hot takeaway food options 24-hours a day and the store features both Crispy Chicken and Hooked On outlets. Both brands are successful in-house fast food lines that offer customers a choice of crispy chicken or premier fish and chips to the community.

“This is the first FreshStop store in the area, so we have made a real effort to offer our customers and local community an opportunity to enjoy our amazing products, services and food brands at great prices. Needless to say, we are really excited about this opening. Although it has been stressful, the challenge has been well received as we look forward to kick starting a great and successful partnership in this area,” explains Berlyn.

Berlyn has been taking care of the site on behalf of the Caltex Eastern Cape Marketer for the past two years and his expertise was proven when Northcrest won Outlet of the Year at the 2015 Caltex Eastern Cape Marketer Awards. “One thing that makes me super happy is the fact that we have increased our staff complement and almost doubled the number of staff members, which means more jobs for the community and convenient shopping for our customers. This makes us really happy,” adds Berlyn.
