Insect repellent, Jungle Formula, has launched a spray designed specifically for use in the UK.

New Jungle Formula Outdoor & Camping is claimed to protect against biting insects commonly found across the UK including mosquitoes, midges, bees, wasps and horseflies.

Louise White, Jungle Formula spokesperson, said: “Jungle Formula is no longer a product only used in the jungle. There is clearly a need here in the UK too as consumers use insect repellents while enjoying the great outdoors.”

As the climate changes, the prevalence of mosquitoes in the UK has increased, said Jungle Formula. According to the company, there are over 30 species of mosquitoes present in the UK and recent scientific research predicts changes to the climate could provide more suitable conditions for the Asian Tiger mosquito, which is known to spread tropical diseases and has already been reported in France and Belgium.

White said: “We feel the time is certainly right for a product geared towards repelling the type of insects we come across the most in the UK. Jungle Formula Outdoor & Camping is a great addition to our already successful product line up and is perfect for those hoping to enjoy the great outdoors this summer.”

New Jungle Formula Outdoor & Camping has been specifically designed for use in less extreme climates such as the UK and northern Europe and contains IR3535, which is shown to repel insects by inhibiting their receptors to the smell of humans. It is claimed to have excellent skin tolerance and has been approved by the World Health Organisation for personal use since 2001.

Jungle Formula has also introduced an Insect Repellent Factor (IRF) across the whole range. Similar to selecting a sun cream to suit skin type, the IRF allows consumers to choose which repellent from the range is right for them. The IRF ranges from IRF 2 for Sensitive Skin through to IRF 4 for Maximum Strength.

White said: “Inspired by the sun protection factor and the clarity it provides when choosing a sun tan lotion, we hope the IRF enables consumers to identify the correct product from the range. It is important consumers use the right level of protection, especially those going to tropical climates where insect borne disease is a problem.”

Jungle Formula Outdoor & Camping (IRF 3) is claimed to provide up to six hours of protection and can be used by adults and children from 12 months old. It is available in a 75ml pump spray with a RRP of £6.99.

Jungle Formula Outdoor & Camping is supported by a £500,000 UK press advertising campaign aimed at reaching over 20m UK consumers.
