Jerry Marwood, who stepped down as managing director at Spar UK in the summer, is joining Spar wholesaler and retailer, AF Blakemore, as managing director of its Blakemore Trade Partners division.
The division, which was created earlier this year following the merger between AF Blakemore’s Spar distribution division and the Spar trading, marketing and sales functions of Capper & Co, supports the independent Spar estate of AF Blakemore.
Marwood takes over from Dennis Evans, who is retiring in December 2011.
Evans has overseen the development of the Spar independent business, trading and distribution during his time as managing director. He was also actively involved in the smooth running of the company’s recent acquisition of Capper & Co, said AF Blakemore.
He plans to spend his retirement helping to develop the Costa Coffee franchise he and his wife both own in Scotland.
Peter Blakemore, chairman of Blakemore Trade Partners, said: “I would like to thank Dennis for his significant contribution to our Spar business.
“He leaves the business in a very strong position following the acquisition of Capper & Co last March. I wish him a long and happy retirement.”
Marwood takes up his new post in January 2012.
“Jerry brings with him a wealth of experience in Spar, and I am delighted he will take over as our new managing director,” said Blakemore.
