Morrisons is building a 50,000sq ft supermarket on the site of a former Body Shop warehouse in Littlehampton, West Sussex.
The supermarket is the first stage in the redevelopment of a brownfield site and will create 300 new jobs. The former Body Shop offices will also be converted into an enterprise hub.
Winchester-based engineering consultancy Upton McGougan helped secure planning for the project with its teams assisting the scheme architect.
The energy efficient supermarket will feature an in-store café, a petrol filling station and 270 car parking spaces.
Andy Bradley, Upton McGougan director, said: “Once complete this scheme will have a really positive impact on the area. New housing proposed to the north of Littlehampton will increase demand for retail in the area and so utilising an unused brownfield site makes perfect sense.
“Not only will hundreds of jobs be created with the new shopping facility but the redevelopment will also bring a vacant office building back to life by converting it into an enterprise hub, creating further employment opportunities.”
