A new member of the One Stop Franchise family, Roger Lambert, has taken over the former Sainsbury’s Local site in Rawmarsh that ceased trading on 4 June 2016.
Lambert is a local businessman who previously owned a bakery for eight years and wanted to get back into retail, he successfully won the bid for the store from the Local Council and took ownership back on the 27 June 2016.
Using the majority of local suppliers to complete the refit, Lambert also offered all ex Sainsbury’s staff the opportunity to work in the store, keeping seven and employing seven others from the local community including his new store manager, Conrad Kirk.
The store is using its 5% ‘Local Choice’ option to offer customers Stainforths bread, supplied by a local bakery, local ale from a Rotherham based brewery, and meat supplied by the local butchers. In addition the store will offer Tichibo coffee and Slush Puppie as food-to-go options, along with My Hermes as a service to the community.
The store launch on 20 August saw face painting in-store from 12 noon until 2pm, complimentary snacks and drinks for customers, free Tchibo hot drinks, Disney characters and a dance routine performed outside the store by North Academy.
Lambert said: “The site is perfect for a convenience store with the right mix. I wanted to get back into retail and saw the model One Stop offers and it felt like the perfect fit. They are experts, I know I have the right products at the right price and im offering my customers great value, what more could you want?”
