PayPal has unveiled new Order Ahead and Pay at Table features within its smartphone app, which it claims will save time and make life easier for shoppers.
Marking this landmark:
- For the first time in Britain, people can now order and pay for a takeaway through the PayPal app. Diners can choose and order their wagamama take-out through the app, saving time when they collect it from one of the 107 wagamama restaurants
- They can also pay for their meal at their table at almost 200 Prezzo restaurants through the app, with the option of splitting the bill with their friends, all through their smartphones. Customers save time by not having to wait for the waiter/waitress to bring the bill and get a card machine to take payment
- People ordering their meal at Gourmet Burger Kitchen’s (GBK) 60 restaurants can now leave their wallets at home and pay with their PayPal profile picture, following the success of paying by profile picture at GBK’s Richmond restaurant in 2013
Tom Cheesewright, Applied Futurist for Book of The Future, said: “Amid many moves to popularise mobile payments, the arrival of PayPal in over 2,000 high street stores stands to be the biggest boost to date. The PayPal name is already familiar and trusted. People don’t need to add a new app or account, or move money around in order to take advantage. This lack of friction combined with the big name brands adopting the technology should accelerate the understanding, and ultimately the use of mobile payments on the UK high street.”

Our new Order Ahead and Pay at Table services save busy people valuable time. Why wait for the bill when you can pay at the table with your smartphone? And why wait in a restaurant for your takeaway when you can skip the queue by choosing and ordering ahead on your phone? We found in a recent survey that 76% of Britonsdislike having to wait in long queues. The mobile is at the heart of the new age of money, and we’re delighted to join big brands like GBK, Prezzo and wagamama to make life easier for people.”
Richard Tallboy, director of business development, wagamama, said: “Allowing customers to order ahead and pay for their take-out through the PayPal app makes the experience more convenient for our customers. Payment is already sorted so they just need to pick up their food and enjoy.”

GBK, Prezzo and wagamama join the likes of Oasis, Coast, JD Sports, Blacks and Snow & Rock in accepting PayPal mobile payments at high street stores and restaurants.
