Frank Jones, CEO of retail technology specialists IMS Evolve, claims supermarkets are prepared for the challenges taking place, as they can use technology to ensure fresh food is available for everyone despite the growing demand.

“The current public health situation has raised a lot of concern over supermarket provisions and stock availability,” said Frank Jones, CEO of retail technology specialists IMS Evolve.

“Images of empty shelves in the news and on social media have fuelled a lot of this worry, however many retailers have a strong digital framework in place that will allow supermarkets to adapt at this time of excess demand.

“Robust Internet of Things (IoT) technologies are dynamically monitoring critical in-store refrigeration assets in real time, meaning the public can rest reassured that many retailers have the infrastructure in place to cope with spikes in demand, footfall and stock levels.”
