This year the nation’s favourite malt loaf is celebrating its 80th birthday and to mark the occasion they’ve launched a new strawberry flavour.
Strawberry is the fourth addition in the family favourite Lunchbox Loaves range, which includes apple, banana and traditional malt. It is already loved by one Soreen fan in particular.
“Strawberry is our first berry flavour and we’re pleased that it has gained the seal of approval from top Soreen fan, 6-year old George Funnell from Eastleigh.
“George wanted to combine his love for strawberries with his love for Soreen, so he wrote a letter asking us to consider a new strawberry flavour.
“Fortunately for George we were already in the process of developing new summer fruit flavours, including strawberry, as we’re always looking for the next loaf flavour or format to delight our fans. So when we received George’s letter it certainly helped us to prioritise strawberry as the winner, which George was delighted to hear.
“George has since visited us in the bakery with his Mum to witness the strawberry Lunchbox Loaves being made. We wanted him to be one of the first people to taste the final product.” said Bethan Brown, Marketing Director at Soreen.
The limited edition flavour is exclusively available in selected Asda stores, and similarly to all the Lunchbox Loaves range, carries reassuring goodness messaging for consumers with “no reds” in their nutritional panel.
Strawberry Lunchbox Loaves have less than half the sugar and 84% less fat than the average cake bar, as well as less than half the sugar of compressed fruit-based snacks, making for an everyday energy source and healthy snack for kids.
Mark Simester, MD of Soreen commented: “We know how hard it can be for parents to provide healthy nutritious options for their kids, especially on-the-go. That’s why we’re excited to launch this brand new flavour adding to the family favourite range.
“Malt loaf is a complex carbohydrate with two thirds of its energy released slowly and a third fast release, plus it’s low in fat and a source of fibre, all vital parts of a healthy and nutritious diet. This makes Strawberry Lunchbox Loaves perfect for lunch or to enjoy on the go to boost energy levels and we know kids will love this tasty new flavour.”
Soreen’s Lunchbox Loaves are portion controlled containing under 100 calories per portion. They are also recommended by Change 4 Life as a healthier snack option and are served in primary schools around the country.
Mark went onto say: “Lunchbox Loaves, including Malt, Banana and Apple flavours, have grown 18% YOY, with the range up 55% since March 2016 and growing 5 times faster than Cake as a category.”
As Britain’s number one malt loaf brand, over 108 million units are consumed annually by the nation.
