A Worcester-based hospice has received funding from a Spar retailer to support the day-to-day care of patients at the hospice.
Burn’s & Co’s Spar Malvern Springs Service Station donated £428 to St Richard’s Hospice through the stores open event on 12 July 2013 following a major refit of the store. Included in this donation was a £150 match fund via the Blakemore Foundation Independent Retailer Scheme.
St Richard’s Hospice care for patients in the Worcestershire area who are living with cancer and other life threatening illnesses.
The store ran a number of fundraising initiatives to raise funds for the hospice including a car wash and tombola draw with 15 members of staff supporting the event.
The store selected St Richard’s Hospice as their charity of the year due to personal experiences with the hospice and the exceptional level of care and service it provides.
AF Blakemore extended the offering of its charitable trust in May 2013 to recognise the wide range of community activity undertaken by independent Spar stores across the Meridian & Welsh Guild.
The Blakemore Foundation represents 2% of AF Blakemore’s pre-tax profits and so far 10 retailers have benefited from the scheme, which provides a £150 match fund donation to local good causes supported by independent retailers.

It is through generous donations such as this that we are able to continue to offer free care, comfort and compassion to our patients and families now and in the future.”
