Spar International has launched a website dedicated to football in the run up to the World Cup.
The microsite will highlight special offers for consumers and provides tips on food and drink solutions for those watching the World Cup and celebrating, either at home or in the stadium.
The site also includes a countdown to the World Cup, live match updates and a section monitoring all match results. Once the Cup has started the countdown will be towards the final.
An interactive online game ‘Crazy Fan’ has been integrated into the site, encouraging fans across the globe to send messages to their friends supporting teams from the same or rival countries before or after the matches take place.
Tobias Wasmuht, marketing director, Spar International said football offered a great opportunity to engage with customers through viral media: “Following the fantastic success of our Get Ready for Rugby site in 2007, we are confident this initiative will raise awareness of the range of products available and drive footfall in stores.”
The site will be highlighted on the Spar International website as well as its Facebook and Twitter pages and will be supported by related PoS instore, reflecting the world nature of the event with advertising in markets ranging from China to Portugal.
