Spar has revamped its Finest Blended Scotch Whisky range with a new design, which brings it in line with the recently updated Gin and Vodka lines, and ensure compliance with new guidelines for labelling under recent Scottish Whisky legislation changes.

The newly-designed stock is now in store.

The range includes Spar Finest Scotch Whisky 1 litre (RRP £16.99), 70cl (RRP £12.49), 35cl (RRP £7.49) and 20ml (RRP £5.29), and Spar Glen Dhu Whisky 70cl (RRP £11.49).

According to Spar, the Finest whisky has been reviewed in the latest Jim Murray’s Whiskey Bible 2012 and was rated 90.5 out of 100, which qualifies as ‘brilliant’.

“Spar Finest Reserve is fabulously clean, young grain offering butterscotch and toffee; elsewhere something earthy rumbles;… brilliantly subtle delivery with silky grains ensnared in a sweet shell; towards the middle chocolate fudge and a distinctive smoky rumble forms,” said the review.

“It is one of the best ‘supermarket’ finishes to be found with a stunning array of clean, dapper smoke notes which cling, like softly oiled limpets, to the taste buds for an improbably long time: lush and beautifully layered, this is masterful blending; one of Britain’s best value for money blends.”

Spar brand director Susan Darbyshire said: “We wanted to bring the Spar Whisky range into line with our Spar Vodka and Gin, which were successfully redesigned in May last year, to create a more consistent look and feel.

“These whiskies are already highly successful lines, with Spar Glen Dhu 70cl the number one blended Scotch Whisky sold in our stores, while Spar Finest Scotch Whisky 1 litre is the number three seller,” said Darbyshire.

The total group of Spar brand blended Scotch Whiskies account for 50% of all blended Scotch whisky sales within Spar.
