Spar has won an award for its revamped own label wine range, which has recorded strong sales growth.
The retailer took home the Own-Label Range of the Year Award at the Grocer Gold Awards held last week, thanks to the initiatives it has carried out to improve the range over the past three years.
Since 2008, Spar said it has set out to develop a better wine offer for convenience shoppers. With the help of its Master of Wine, the Spar wine range has expanded to cover more regions and price points.
New label designs and in-store communication also helped sales increased 41%, contributing to a 30% growth in total wine sales.
Spar’s wine buying director, Chris Lewis said: “Our retailers found our old wine offer limited and confusing, they simply didn’t believe they could ever sell anything above an entry-level wine.
“Over the last few years we have transformed our own-label wine range; we have worked hard and committed real investment into finding some of the best wines. We really do believe we have something for everyone regardless of preference, and it is fantastic to see the results receive this kind of recognition.”
