ChannelAdvisor’s UK Facebook Commerce Index saw an addition of approximately 1.8m Likes to the Top 25 in August 2012.

The month also experienced more churn than has recently been witnessed with 12 changes and some retailers adding over 80% more Likes to their Facebook pages over the course of 31 days.

Unsurprisingly, last month had a strong Olympic and Paralympic vibe, and sports brands such as JD Sports and Evans Cycles lived up to this expectation. With almost 50,000 new Likes, JD Sports climbed three places in the Top 25 to 17th place  and knocked John Lewis down a couple of spots.

According to ChannelAdvisor, Evans Cycles embraced the Olympics in August, engaging its fans with regular commentary, pictures and updates on Team GB’s cycling team. No doubt it was helpful this team performed particularly well, but these updates contributed to its impressive 19% growth.

After a strong July, Amazon is still powering ahead with an additional 719,263 fans in August alone, taking its total to 1.6m.

Amazon’s Facebook growth seems to be mimicking its overall market growth at present, as its fan-base grew by a 80%, taking this marketplace giant from seventh position to fourth in the Top 25. This is especially compelling as Amazon wasn’t even in the Top 25 in January 2012.
