Starbucks is poised to become the world’s first consumer brand to achieve 10m fans (or ‘likes’) on Facebook – or on any single social network, according to the London-based social media metrics company Famecount. At 10am GMT Starbucks had 9,983,738 fans and is on course to reach the milestone within the next few hours.
Starbucks overtook Coca-Cola as the most popular consumer brand on Facebook almost exactly one year ago, and remains the fastest growing page, adding almost 2.3m fans this month alone. Across Facebook as a whole Starbucks is the ninth most popular entity, with the Zynga game Texas Hold ‘em Poker the most popular with almost 21m fans. Two media entities, Facebook itself, and TV show Family Guy are also ahead of Starbucks.
