Tex-Mex food brand Chimichanga has opened a restaurant in Glasgow at Silverburn, Hammerson’s flagship regional out-of-town shopping centre. The 290sq m (3,120sq ft) restaurant is only the second site for Chimichanga in Scotland and is located in between TGI Friday’s and handmade burger co in Silverburn’s £20m leisure extension.

Chimichanga joins a total of nine new restaurants at Silverburn’s leisure extension, including the recently opened Five Guys, plus Carluccio’s, TGI Friday’s, Cosmo, Pizza Express and Zizzi, in the new 9,293sq m (100,000sq ft) leisure destination anchored by a 14-screen digital Cineworld cinema.

Sarah Fox, head of restaurants and leisure at Hammerson, said: “We are very pleased to welcome Chimichanga to Silverburn. As a destination, Silverburn offers a prime choice for brands looking to expand and our investment in the leisure extension adds to its unique appeal in the region. Once fully open in the summer, the leisure extension will attract more footfall from a wider catchment to Silverburn.”

This news follows the recent announcement that Subway will be opening a 93sq m (1,000sq ft) restaurant early this summer at Silverburn.
