Leading UK farming co-operative, First Milk, has formed a strategic joint venture with New Zealand-based food ingredients producer, Fonterra, to share intellectual property and industry expertise.
The venture will see First Milk work collaboratively with Fonterra to deliver whey protein products to the European market. First Milk was advised on the partnership by business law firm, DWF.
First Milk supplies milk and cheese products nationally and internationally. By sharing expertise with fellow farming co-operative Fonterra, the joint venture will allow First Milk to add value to the whey streams produced through the cheese making process at its creamery in Cumbria, said DWF.
Peter Allen, head of the food group at DWF, said: “This partnership represents a fantastic opportunity for First Milk to add significant value to its production process. It is also an exciting development for First Milk teaming up with Fonterra, which is one of the world’s largest farmer-owned dairy businesses.
“The collaboration with Fonterra will allow both businesses to share knowledge and industry expertise in order to tap into the growing market for whey protein products. We are pleased to have been appointed as advisers by First Milk on this project, continuing our strong relationship with the business.”
