Christmas can’t come early enough and some retailers will be tempted to try and gain first-mover advantage, according to Synovate Retail Performance’s latest UK retail traffic weathermap.
The latest series of three maps show the percentage change in shoppers last month in relation to the same month last year, the percentage change last month in relation to the previous month, and the percentage change predicted for the coming month based on data from the past five years.
The storm clouds rolled in during September 2011 versus the same time last year with traffic down 6.4%, according to Synovate.
Traffic in September 2011 dipped 7% on average across the UK compared with August 2011. The forecast for October 2011 is brighter, however, with shopper traffic predicted to drop 0.5% on September 2011.
