Vodafone has taken a controlling stake in the parent company of smart phone voucher codes supplier, Vouchercloud.

Vodafone, who took a 21% stake in Invitation Digital Limited (IDL) in May 2011, has increased its stake to 57%.

Vouchercloud said it will work closely with Vodafone to expand its offering internationally, launching in Ireland on 7 June 2012.

Greg Le Tocq, managing director, IDL said: “We’re delighted to be working with Vodafone. Their investment allows us to realise our vision that everyone should have access to amazing deals on their phones. We’re now in the exciting position to be able to launch Vouchercloud world-wide, helping users save money every day on the things they love to do most.”

Vouchercloud offers discounts, codes and vouchers for daily shopping from a wide range of high street shops, restaurants and leisure providers as well as travel and financial services companies. Vouchercloud uses the smart phone’s GPS system to locate discounting retailers nearest to the customer, then guides the customer to the shop’s front door using the smart phone’s digital mapping application. The voucher is downloaded to the smartphone screen with a single tap, then shown to the sales assistant in store to redeem the discount.

Vouchercloud is also supported by an online portal – www.vouchercloud.com – which enables users to choose how they would like to receive their discounts – whether a printed voucher, mobile app or online shopping code.
