Hammerson has announced that the UK’s leading high street specialist bookseller, Waterstones, is to launch at Silverburn, Glasgow this September. The new store will be the first ever dedicated bookshop at the destination.
The 6,000sq ft unit, located adjacent to New Look, will offer the brand’s comprehensive selection of books, alongside unique stationery and gift collections. Spanning over both the ground and first floor, the new store – designed by an in-house team – will feature a dedicated section for local authors. Founded in 1982, today Waterstones employs over 3,000 booksellers and has over 290 stores.
Iain Mitchell, UK commercial director at Hammerson, said: “Waterstones is a great example of a brand that delivers a really immersive in-store experience, and that’s exactly what we are looking for across our portfolio. I’m sure the new store, our first ever dedicated bookshop in Silverburn, will be a great addition to the destination.”
James Daunt, managing director of Waterstones, added: “Our Scottish bookshops have been enjoying extraordinary success these last few years, and we are delighted to add to their number. Silverburn is exactly the kind of vibrant shopping centre in which we thrive and we aim to give it an exceptional bookshop.”
This signing follows the recent opening of Stack & Still, operators of the UK’s largest urban pancake house, which launched its second-ever restaurant at Silverburn in July.
