Westfield today announced it will host a Job Show at Westfield London on 30-31 January, where people can find out and apply for the thousands of job opportunities at what will become Europe’s largest shopping centre when its £600 million expansion opens to the public this March.

The event, open from 11am to 7pm on both days, will showcase new jobs within Westfield itself across the growing number of retailers calling Westfield London home. Visitors to the Job Show will get first-hand information on new roles from retailers including Primark and Adidas, as well as fashion stores Urban Revivo and Emperor, furniture specialists West Elm and Bo Concept, lingerie store Bravissimo, Japan Ichiba Food Hall and boutique bowling venue All Star Lanes.

Duncan Bower, director of development at Westfield, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming all who are interested in employment and training to our Westfield Job Show, where they can find out about the thousands of exciting opportunities available in retail, customer service and hospitality at Westfield London. As a wider Employment and Training Group, with Hammersmith & Fulham Council and together local colleges, we have done a great deal to help inform and prepare the local community for these jobs and now, with the launch of the expansion just over two months away, we encourage local residents to head along to the Job Show to apply.”

One person who knows all about the career opportunities on offer at Westfield London is local Hammersmith resident Maria Davis-Shiniou, 30. Having left Phoenix School in Shepherd’s Bush, Maria found work as a Westfield Concierge Associate, helping shoppers with their visit. Eight years later, she is now the Concierge Operations Manager and responsible for a team of over 50.

Maria said: “When I joined Westfield London it was my first real job but it’s turned into a full career. There are so many different opportunities here and with the expansion these will continue to grow. I encourage anyone from the local community to come to the Westfield Job Show to find out more about their perfect job, work experience or training opportunity.”

Since opening in 2008, Westfield London has created over 12,000 new jobs, either as a direct employer or through its growing list of retailers across fashion, food, leisure and entertainment. Now entering its 10th anniversary year, the major destination has been working in partnership with Hammersmith & Fulham Council to promote employment and training opportunities to the local and London community.

Examples include free courses recently launched in collaboration with West London College and City of Westminster College. Designed to help people be job-ready, they allow local residents to gain an accredited retail, hospitality or catering qualification in just two weeks. More free training and the latest vacancies are available through free recruitment service Work Zone (workzoneonline.co.uk), based at Shepherd’s Bush Library in Westfield London, where residents can register their CV to find out about jobs before they are publicly advertised – many vacancies will be exclusively offered through Work Zone when they are first posted.

“Our Workzone experts and the jobs at Westfield are a perfect match,” said Andrew Jones, H&F Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration.

“There are thousands of new job opportunities right on our doorstep and many more still to come with the shopping centre’s new expansion. Come along to the job show at Westfield and visit Workzone at Shepherds Bush Library next door and find out for yourself.”

A great number of community initiatives have come from the Employment Steering Group comprising Westfield together with Hammersmith & Fulham Council, local colleges and Job Centre Plus. The Group has delivered a series of community workshops organised in partnership with WorkZone and Big Local to give White City and surrounding Estate residents tips on applying for new customer service roles at the shopping centre.

In addition to the Job Show later this month, Hammersmith & Fulham Council with Westfield London will be staging a local job fair in the White City Community Centre on 16 January.

Westfield London’s expansion will create an extra 740,000 sq. ft. of retail, dining, leisure and entertainment space, bringing the number of stores to 450. To date the project has involved over 5,000 construction workers, over half of which are based in London, and over 205 construction apprentices.

Since 2008, Westfield has invested £3.5 billion in the UK to create 25,000 new jobs across both Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City.
