The Co-operative has introduced frozen pies to its own-brand range, as sales of pies in Britain are reported to have reached a 30-year high.
The range, introduced earlier this month, includes some family-sized traditional favourites that are ready in just 50 minutes. The range includes a Deep Fill Steak Pie filled with tender pieces of British and Irish steak in a meaty, flavoursome gravy and topped with a light puff pastry lid; and a Deep Fill Chicken & Gravy Pie, which contains pieces of chicken breast in a light chicken gravy encased in a crisp short crust pastry and finished with a crisp puff pastry lid.
The Co-operative has also introduced single-serve steak pies and chicken & mushroom pies into the range. Sold in packs of four and ready in just 30 minutes, the pies are a quick and convenient snack or meal solution, says the retailer.
Joanna Stone, category product manager for frozen at The Co-operative, said: “The range is made with quality ingredients and the pies make for a tasty meal when served with traditional English fayre such as mashed potato and peas. With no mess or preparation and cooked at home for that just-baked quality, the large pies are ideal for a family meal. You can just pop them in the oven and forget about them for 50 minutes.”
