The World Foods Association, organisers of the World Food Awards, is now accepting entries for the 2011 event – claimed to be one of the most prestigious events on the world food calendar.
The third annual event will be hosted by comedian Lenny Henry on 1 October 2011 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
Henry returns to host the awards after a successful debut last year, when the World Food Awards 2010 saw Vita Coco scoop Best New Product; Zuma named Restaurant of the Year; and Patak’s walk away with the award for Best Marketing Campaign.
Henry said: “There was such an impressive range of nominees from Zuma restaurant and Levi Roots to Vita Coco and Patak’s – and coming from a Jamaican background myself, I think it’s fantastic how practically every ethnicity was represented in this unique celebration of world food. I had a fantastic experience last year , so am delighted to be back. It’s one event you can attend knowing the food is going to be great.”
Earlier this month, the World Foods Association announced Asian TV network, Star, as the official media partner for the event.
Yeshpal Sharma, vice president for Star UK & Europe, said: “Our association with the prestigious World Food Awards 2011 is another major coup for the Star network. Star is committed in taking a pro-active approach towards events for the Asian community in the UK. We look forward to a continued association with this event and making it much bigger and more universal in its appeal.”
The World Food Awards are open exclusively to companies specialising, promoting or stocking products from the following countries: Asian, Oriental, African, Afro-Caribbean, European, East-European, Middle Eastern, South American and Mediterranean.

Harry Dulai one of the World Foods Association’s founding supporters, said: “This event proved an instant success with our industry, quickly attracting the who’s who of the world food sector – a clear sign to me that an event to honour the achievements of this thriving sector was long overdue. We have backed it and believed in it from the start and to see it presented last year by comedy legend Lenny Henry with brands like Zuma and Patak’s walking away with gongs was a truly proud moment. We are delighted to be working with Star TV on our third annual awards ceremony.”
KPMG’s Sheel Gill will audit the judges’ results to ensure complete confidence in the judging process, said organisers.
