Product of the Year is back and on a mission to discover and celebrate the UK’s most innovative new products for 2020.
Now in its 16th year, Product of the Year is the UK’s biggest and most comprehensive annual study of product innovation. With more than 10,000 consumers voting in the UK and upwards of 200,000 globally, Product of the Year recognises and rewards the new and the innovative providing a robust consumer seal of approval for the brightest and best new products.
Conducted by Kantar TNS, the world’s largest research company, products are voted for by the consumer for the consumer with the winning products winning the right to display the iconic red Product of the Year logo.
Last year, 51 products from washing tablets to pet food and energy bars walked away with the title – indicative of the depth in product innovation and the quality of the entries. And unlike many awards, Product of the Year celebrates the quiet heroes of the everyday. The Heinz ketchup bottle turned on its head to ease out the last drops, the augmented reality toothbrush designed to encourage kids to brush, the lactose free yoghurt. Over its sixteen year lifespan, the survey has become a benchmark of excellence and a barometer of changing consumer attitudes and wants.
Judged for their level of innovation across a number of criteria including: function, recipe, design and packaging, the winning products benefit hugely. 86% of shoppers have revealed that they are more likely to buy a product that carries the covered Product of the Year logo with brands recording an average sales increase of 10-15% with some uplifts as high as 135%.
This year, the introduction of the new Blogger Panel, as well as extensive influencer activation, has also ensured stand out social media visibility for the winning brands.
Commenting on the 2020 awards, Mike Nolan, CEO, Product of the Year says: “In 2020 we want to celebrate the brands that have launched products that are positively influencing consumers lives and providing them with everyday excellence they can rely on. Being so well recognised and respected by consumers, Product of the Year is a great tool to help boost sales and shout about a new product. Last year, we saw all manner of brands surfacing as firm favourites from known household names to newcomers. Every year the award yields a number of surprising results and it’s fascinating to see how consumer shopping habits continue to evolve and change. 2020 is shaping up to be an exciting year!”
