Parfümerie Douglas, Europe’s perfume and cosmetics leader and one of Germany’s largest retailers, has chosen Worldpay to launch its flagship online store in Germany and help it roll out new e-commerce websites across Europe in 2016.
Parfümerie Douglas had been selling its products online in a number of European markets for over 10 years, but was previously unable to consolidate sales and customer data in each region which made it difficult to develop an informed long-term growth strategy. By choosing Worldpay as its exclusive payments provider, Parfümerie Douglas has gained a single accurate vision of its payment data across every market and become more flexible and efficient in its decision-making. This single view of sales across the business also allows Parfümerie Douglas to weigh costs-versus-risks more judiciously when developing growth strategies.
Worldpay’s knowledge of consumers’ purchasing profiles and payment preferences across Europe will help Parfümerie Douglas ensure its e-commerce sites and roll-out strategies are tailored to perfume and cosmetics customers in each of its target markets, including Norway, Czech Republic, Poland, Spain, Portugal and Italy. Worldpay’s diagnostics capabilities will help Parfümerie Douglas anticipate impending sales spikes so the retailer can prepare its website for rises in traffic and manage its stock to meet demand.
Since launching its new e-commerce sites with Worldpay in Germany and Switzerland, Parfümerie Douglas has seen its payment acceptance rates in these two markets jump 8%.
Parfümerie Douglas e-commerce COO, Jan Dieter Schaa, said: “To expand into new European markets quickly we need to cater to many different cultures, languages, and preferred payment methods while maintaining a single, up-to date view of what’s happening across our business. Worldpay has already proved the level of its global expertise with the successful launch of our Swiss and German sites, and we expect them to help us carry on the momentum next year as we roll out new online stores across the continent.”
Worldpay is also helping Parfümerie Douglas ensure all its e-commerce sites are optimised for mobile users by delivering a more responsive customer experience and faster checkouts for smartphone and tablet users.
Wilco Slabbekoorn, business development director Retail EMEA at Worldpay, said: “We’ve seen online sales of perfume and cosmetics in Europe shift heavily towards smartphones and tablets as the convenience of these devices wins over a growing number of consumers. Working closely with Parfümerie Douglas, we’ve helped the company position itself to deliver on customers’ growing expectation for a mobile-friendly retail experience.”
