Adelie Foods enlists RELEX Solutions to achieve full visibility of its supply chain

Adelie Foods, one of the UK’s leading ‘Food to Go’ businesses supplying the UK retail, coffee shop, travel and contract catering sectors, has chosen RELEX Solutions, provider of the world’s most powerful supply chain solutions, to increase its supply chain visibility and availability.

Adelie Foods currently operates six manufacturing locations and eight distribution centres that combine to produce more than four million fresh sandwiches a week. The company is implementing RELEX’s solution to tackle the challenges of demand forecasting, replenishment and availability as it continues its ambitious growth plans.

Following an in-depth review of six other systems, Adelie Foods selected RELEX due to its in memory computing that allows for greater speed and scale of calculations. A key differentiator for Adelie was RELEX’s ability to handle multi-level bill of materials which would enable more in depth visibility throughout Adelie Foods’ supply chain, leading to greater operational efficiency, more informed capacity planning and improved decision making.

Michael Berridge, head of supply chain & planning, Adelie Foods , said: “The increasingly demanding operation Adelie Foods runs on a daily basis makes it crucial to have a next level supply chain system in place. We currently work with two ERP systems that provide a degree of data but are unable to give us the required visibility across our entire supply chain especially as Adelie Foods expands. RELEX will integrate with our existing systems to provide us with the strategic analysis and insight to transform our forecasting right down to customer level, and then enable informed negotiation of better supply terms.

“RELEX displayed a willingness to understand not only our requirements as a customer but also our business processes as a whole. As a result, we expect to see increased availability and full visibility of the supply chain, thereby saving time and allowing better decision making for the business.”

Mikko Kärkkäinen, Group CEO at RELEX Solutions, said: “In line with Adelie Foods’ growth plans, we’ve provided a solution that enables greater efficiencies and increased profitability. Being a company with a similar ideology, we are particularly proud to support Adelie Foods’ waste reduction plans and its recognition as the first sandwich manufacturer in the UK to achieve ‘zero food waste to landfill’. As with all our client engagements, the project has been approached with Adelie Foods’ unique requirements in mind, which will mean rapid ROI in line with their strategic business objectives.”

Project implementation started at the beginning of August, with RELEX due to be fully deployed at all Adelie Foods’ sites by the end of October 2015.
