AF Blakemore’s has scooped four Business in the Community awards.
The company’s Education Matters Programme and Heart Distribution’s Producer Scheme were both successfully reaccredited with a Big Tick in the Education and Responsible Supply Chain categories respectively.
The Education Matters programme recognises the wide range of support AF Blakemore employees provide to schools across the company’s trading area via activities based around regeneration, literacy, employability training and study tours.
Heart Distribution was recognised for the work it has undertaken to maximise the efficiencies in the supply chain of local food and drink producers by utilising A.F. Blakemore well-established distribution network. The operation reduces food miles, supports small producers and assists in making local products more accessible and affordable for consumers.
AF Blakemore is also a member of the West Midlands Business Action on Homelessness Steering Group, which was reaccredited in the Employability category. The scheme aims to break the cycle of ‘no job, no home’ by helping homeless people find employment and independent living.
The fourth accolade went to Blakemore Logistics in recognition of the work undertaken to reduce the environmental impact of both its distribution operation and the retail estate it serves. The company was awarded the West Midlands Carbon Reduction Award, which acknowledged the impact made by the Blakemore recycling centre and additional work undertaken to minimise the organisation’s carbon footprint.
