Aldi’s baby and toddler brand, Mamia, to sponsor Barnardo’s Big Toddle fundraiser

Barnardo’s has teamed up with Aldi’s award-winning baby and toddler brand, Mamia, for the charity’s flagship fundraiser Big Toddle 2016.

The event for under-fives has raised more than £14m since it started in 1997, helping the most disadvantaged children in the UK.

Last year 300,000 children from 3,000 nurseries across the UK took part in Big Toddle. To mark Barnardo’s 150th anniversary, the charity hopes this year’s event will be bigger than ever before.

This year’s Big Toddle theme is animals, so children will be encouraged to get into character and ‘Toddle on the wild side’ for half a mile.

Jonathan Neale, joint managing director for corporate buying at Aldi, said: “We are proud to be working in partnership with our Charity of the Year, Barnardo’s, as headline sponsor for the Big Toddle fundraiser. We will be supporting the initiative which sees events take place up and down the country, raising funds for the valuable work Barnardo’s does to help the UK’s most disadvantaged children by delivering vital services in their local communities.”

Aldi’s was voted Supermarket of the Year at both the Loved by Parents Awards 2015 and the Mother & Baby Awards 2016, as well as awarded the Mother & Baby Gold Award for the Best Disposable Newborn Nappy.

Barnardo’s chief executive, Javed Khan, said: “We are delighted Aldi Mamia are our headline sponsors for this year’s Big Toddle. Children across the UK will have a lot of fun ‘toddling on the wild side’ in animal-theme fancy dress.

“Our Big Toddle raises hundreds of thousands of pounds every year towards helping the most vulnerable children across the country to have a happier and safer childhood.”

Nurseries, child minders and parents can set up their own Big Toddle for pre-school children.
