Britain’s fifth largest supermarket, Aldi, is to introduce a range of everyday greetings cards into all 840 of its UK stores for the first time, following a successful trial.
All cards retail at 99p each and cover a range of occasions, from birthdays and anniversaries to congratulations and thank you.
Aldi has previously sold cards for Christmas and other key occasions but this is the first time it has had a permanent display of year-round cards in all its UK stores. It follows successful trials in Yorkshire and the South West earlier this year.
All cards, including Aldi’s Christmas cards and festive wrapping, will also be free of non-biodegradable glitter by the end of 2019 as part of the supermarket’s pledges to cut unnecessary microplastics.
Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi, said: “The convenience of buying a quick birthday or anniversary card along with your groceries has meant that greetings cards are increasingly the kind of product shoppers now expect to buy as part of their weekly shop.
“We carried out trials in two regions earlier this year and the feedback was overwhelming – our customers loved being able to buy a range of quality cards at a simple, low price point.”
