English wine enjoyed a surge in popularity in 2020, with the rise in Aldi’s English Wine sale’s reflecting the nation’s newfound love for home grown tipples. This popularity shows no sign of reducing in 2021, with the first quarter of the year seeing Aldi’s English wine sales rise again by over 350%.

So, what better way to celebrate English Wine Week (19th – 27th June) than with a host of delicious and increasingly popular English tipples from Aldi? Especially as the supermarket is working with a host of top English wine producers to create its brand new own-label brand Bowler & Brolly.

Aldi is proud to boast a collection of refreshing and tasty English wines, perfectly suited to summer drinking. After all, what’s more English than enjoying a refreshing local wine in a grape British garden or on an English summer evening sipping top home-grown wine?

Not sure what to pair English wines with? No fear, Mistress of Wine, Sam Caporn, has top pairing tips:

For a brand-new splash of pink bound to trickle down a treat, Aldi’s new Specially Selected Bowler & Brolly English Rosé 2020 (£8.99) is a dry rosé boasting a range of fruity notes. Aldi is bringing shoppers this crisp, crowd pleasing beverage sourced straight from the quaint Surrey countryside.

Caporn says:  “A pretty pale colour with a zesty, grassy aroma, this wine has a flavoursome, fruity palete. Sweeter notes of pear, watermelon and strawberry are offset by the fresh and zingy acidity of tangy sherbet lemon and complimented by a red cherry finish.”

Another seasonal must-have perfect for sunny evenings in the garden, the new Specially Selected Bowler & Brolly English Bacchus 2020 (£8.99) is a Summer essential. This crisp, dry white wine displays aromas of an English summer, from subtle grassy notes and meadow flowers offset by refreshing acidity.

Caporn says: “A crisp, dry and gently aromatic wine made with English Bacchus grapes, this has a mouth-watering acidity and a wonderfully refreshing, citrus and elderflower finish. Its many flavours make this wine a fantastic accompaniment to fish and chargrilled vegetables, ideal for an alfresco dinner enjoyed in the garden.”

The Bowler and Brolly Sparkling (£14.99) is the ideal addition to any BBQ or picnic table. This fresh and fruity bottle of bubbles is the perfect summer treat, ideal for a special occasion. What’s more, it’s sourced straight from the South Devon coast, the UK’s most popular staycation destination*.

Caphorn says: “This fresh and fruity sparkler is the perfect drink for that special occasion and pairs beautifully with seafood. A blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Reichensteiner, Seyval Blanc and Solaris give a good balance of citrus and toast flavours. This wine will pair perfectly with a range of fish dishes, making it great for lighter meals on warmer days.”
