Barr Construction has kicked off the fit out of a brand new 58,000sq ft Sainsbury’s as part of the Talbot Gateway regeneration scheme in Blackpool.
The store is situated within Muse Development’s 25-acre Talbot Gateway Central Business District (CBD) in the centre of the seaside town.
Set to open in summer the store will include a customer café, dentist and Timpson’s store, providing up to 270 jobs for people within a five mile radius of the store.
Jim Harkness, project manager at Barr Construction, said: “We are really looking forward to playing a pivotal role in bringing new life to the Talbot Road area.
“Barr Construction has a significant track record of working with Sainsbury’s to deliver fantastic new retail facilities and bring real benefits to the local communities we operate within.”
Talbot Gateway Central Business District (CBD) is a major mixed-use regeneration scheme, set to transform the heart of Blackpool town centre.
Store manager Ian Collins said: “The opening of this landmark foodstore is not only a fantastic achievement for Blackpool but a brilliant opportunity for Sainsbury’s.
“To open a store of this scale in the heart of Blackpool, in an area which is undergoing rapid regeneration, is a real coup and will create a store Sainsbury’s and the local community can be proud of.”
When complete, Talbot Gateway will provide new retail, commercial and community space for Blackpool, in addition to town centre parking and transport.
Located next to the main railway station for the seaside town, the 25-acre scheme is being delivered in partnership by Blackpool Council and Muse Developments, one of the country’s leading names in mixed-use development and urban regeneration
Once complete, Talbot Gateway CBD will provide new retail, commercial and hotel space in addition to town centre parking and transport facilities.
