Berry Bros. & Rudd has opened a ballot for the 2009 Daftmill Summer Release. This is the latest single cask release from Daftmill; a vatting of bourbon and sherry casks: a first for Daftmill.
The one-week ballot opened yesterday morning at 9am and will close at 6pm on Tuesday 19 January 2021. This gives customers a week to sign up for a chance to buy one of the 600 bottles of Daftmill’s latest bottling – 2009 Daftmill Summer Release.
The 2009 Daftmill Summer Release follows the release of the hugely popular 2007 Winter Release which was filled into 7 ex-Bourbon casks. This bottling, however, is different as Jonny McMillan, Berry Bros. & Rudd assistant spirits reserve manager, explains “The first vatting of bourbon and sherry casks from Daftmill shows a new side to the distillery, and in my opinion this balance and finesse suits the delicate spirit perfectly.”
To be in with a chance of securing a bottle of Daftmill’s 2009 Summer release, customers need to register their interest on the Berry Bros. & Rudd website at bbr.com/Daftmill. The winners will be then selected at random after the closing date and will be notified no later than Friday 22nd January. Full T&Cs are available on the website.
2009 Daftmill Summer Release (46%) £100
The nose is initially quite shy, this dram benefits from a little breathing time in the glass, however those with patience are rewarded with a harmoniously balance of fresh tropical fruit reminiscent of mango and cola cubes with thicker aromas of dried figs and cigar boxes. The palate is wonderfully spicey giving notes of clootie dumpling and lemon zest developing into something smoother with toffee notes and Fraserburgh butteries. The finish is exceptional with the ex-sherry casks really shining through and waves of fresh fiery gingerbread lingering.
