Sheffield-based Birley Manufacturing, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers for interior environments and rail carriage equipment, is investing in its design skills and offering a bespoke design service.
Birley is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers for interior environments and rail carriage equipment, supplying and installing premium furnishings for national names across the country. Following support from the Keep Sheffield Working Fund, which is managed by Creative Sheffield, Birley is investing in hardware, software and staffing for its new design service meaning that they can bring their design work in-house. It is hoped this move will generate an additional £100k a year for the thriving business. The company also plans to invest in marketing and software to promote and sell their services to the rail, education and design sectors.
Birley, which has been trading for eight years, achieved a turnover of £10m in 2012 and was included on the 2013 London Stock Exchange Group’s 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain. Working with wood, metal and other materials the company has provided fixtures and fittings for the retail, industrial, rail and education sectors, including some of the UK’s top names, such as Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, NatWest and First Great Western Trains.
Steve English, managing director of Birley Manufacturing, said: “Our aim is to grow and develop our key business sectors by at least 10%. We feel the addition of design as part of our in-house offering will complement and enhance what we already do. Companies like Birley have much to offer and have proved resilient despite the economic recession. We strive to offer the best, both in the products we manufacture and in the service we offer, we are honoured to be viewed as an inspiration to other companies across the country and plan to continue growing and developing as a business.”
