The Cambridge Satchel Company has opened a men’s store in Seven Dials, London. The opening event, hosted by founder and CEO Julie Deane, coincides with the launch of the brand’s first dedicated men’s range.
Attendees at the event included long-time supporter of the brand, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and husband Richard Jones, Made in Chelsea’s Andy Jordan and British socialite Henry Conway. Guests enjoyed British canapés including fish and chips, bangers and mash and cheese on toast. The drinks, provided by Lakes Distillery in Cumbria, included Whisky Ginger Ale and Elderflower Gin Coolers.
Inspired by traditional British outfitters and British production techniques, the new store is a redesign of the brand’s first ever store which originally opened in Seven Dials in 2012. The new store reveals a unique look and feel; perfect for the brand’s male customers. Visitors are encouraged to discover the new men’s collection as well as a range of unisex and season specials in a sophisticated, quirky and masculine space.
“The launch of our new men’s collection marks an exciting step for us in this amazing journey. We wanted to give our male shoppers a chance to shop the range just the way they like so we’ve designed the space with them in mind. This store is very special to me as it was our first bricks and mortar shop. We hope everyone likes what we’ve done with it!,” said Deane.
The new store opened to coincide with London Collections: The Cambridge Satchel Company will also be showcasing its products at Victoria House as part of the British Fashion Council’s official showcase.
The new range of men’s bags remains true to the brand’s satchel-inspired design, with additional functionality, finishes and hardware tailored to men. New styles, inspired by vintage apparel, have been created to offer something for every taste and occasion, appealing to men from all walks of life.
The store opening is the latest development in the brand’s journey following its investment from Index Ventures in 2014. It follows the opening of a flagship store next to Apple in Covent Garden and the appointment of a new team including Mario Muttenthaler who joined as CMO from MR PORTER and Jonny Wooldridge who joined at CTO from Marks & Spencer. In January of this year the brand’s founder, Deane, was awarded an OBE for Services to Entrepreneurship.
